Kolach (Koláč) (quick method)


 

Dough:

¾ cup sugar

½ teaspoons salt

½ cup oil

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk (may substitute milk with a tablespoon of dist. vinegar)

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 cups flour

 

Topping:

Use sliced fruit, blueberries, sweetened farmer's cheese or a poppy seed filling.

 

Crumble:

Mix 3 tablespoons butter with equal amomounts of each, sugar and flour until crumbly consistency.

 

In a bowl mix sugar, salt, oil and egg. Add baking powder to buttermilk, stir and add to the flour mixture. Add flour and mix until dough has a smooth consistency. Pour on an oiled pan, spread out with a spoon, top with fruit layer. Sprinkle crumble over top of fruit. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until edges turn golden.
