The year 2020 marks the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. In June of 1945, on the heels of the conclusion of WWII fifty (50) countries met for a nine-week conference to seek unity on international joint efforts to draft the United Nations Charter that would give birth to and govern this international body; in Truman’s words, to “...create a great instrument for peace and security and human progress in the world.”
Full speech he gave at the final plenary session address:

The signing of the UN Charter is a historic landmark and its ratification - official adoption by 51 countries on October 24, 1945 - signifies the birth of the United Nations 75 years ago.

Since then and each year, the international community is marking its anniversary worldwide.
